My mother's cousin was a technical sergeant in the 9th AAF Photo Recon Intelligence.  During Desert Storm he donated his memorabilia to his squadron that was still in existence.  When another of my mother's cousins, a Marine KIA on Okinawa, was brought home, it was the 9th AAF Veteran chosen to represent the family and receive the body and honor guard at the train station.
