The 43rd Infantry Division was a National Guard unit that was activated in late February of 1941.
    It
was sent to the Pacific and landed in New Zealand in late 1942.
It saw early action in the Solomons and was later heavily engaged in New Guinea and the Philippines.
At the end of the war the Division was assigned occupation duty in Japan.  It returned to the US in mid-October 1945 and was de-activated at the end of October.
