Description
Jaguar E-Type.Up for auction is a 1972 Jaguar E-Type roadster. This car has the preferred 4 speed transmission, since most V-12’s were automatics, and also an early version with the small headrests and small bumper over riders. The original color was Willow green with a Suede green interior as shown on XKE Data.com above. The car was originally purchased in 2003 from the original owner and driven to many shows. Sometime in 2010 the current owner, tired of the Willow green color, wanted it professionally stripped and a new interior installed. Since it was already a great running, reasonably rust free car, a major cosmetic restoration was ordered at a professional body shop that has much experience in these cars. This car was totally and systematically disassembled and all parts properly tagged and bagged. The original doors appear to be in excellent condition along with the original floors and inner/outer sills and straight as an arrow frame rails. The boot is rust free and the original bonnet is in very good shape, fits perfectly with a minor dent on the nose done during transport (sorry). The car was media stripped to bare metal, some minor rust repairs were correctly performed and the car was primed in PPG DP40LF epoxy primer. Then the car was primed with PPG gray primer in preparation to paint the firewall, frame and door jambs with a British Racing Green color. Sometime in 2012 the owner fell ill and the restoration was shelved. I have had previous work done by this trusted body shop and they called me to buy it since the owner could no longer complete the car and we had done business in the past. They reported to me that the car did not appear to have ever been wrecked since the paint was mostly all original. The very minor rust repair on the rear fender flares was corrected and TIG welded in place along with some bolt mountings on the bonnet as shown. They apologized for the surface rust on the top of the bonnet as it was stored in an unheated building against and outside wall so it would not get damaged but moisture accumulated. I purchased this car totally disassembled and was told all the parts were there. How many times have you heard that! I transported the “box of car” back to my shop and loosely reassembled the car to show that indeed all the major parts were there, but I cannot say it is 100% all there. The original wheels are in very good condition as are the Michelin red line tires. Of course the brakes must be gone through and if it was me I would also go through the engine and transmission since it would already be removed. There was some engine work done as I can see clean carburetors, new spark plugs that have not been run and valve cover refinishing and other top engine work done. The engine appears to be complete (missing left AIR rail) and turns over by hand freely. I have no knowledge of this engine/transmission but they are both numbers matching and reported to me to have been in good running order, but take that with a grain of salt. All of the original fasteners and small bits are bagged and properly noted as to where they were removed from. It appears the rear suspension had some services done as the Woodhead stickers are still visible on the shocks. There are many new parts including a 0 alloy radiator and a complete, still in sealed plastic wrapper and original box, master interior kit in Biscuit from Original Specification Jaguar Interiors and is a K value included with the car. Everyone knows the hardest part of any restoration is the bodywork. This car has been properly prepared by a highly qualified restoration shop with media stripping to bare metal, refinishing and primed with high quality PPG products. These body panels are loosely assembled to show fit BEFORE any latches and guide pins are installed for finer fit. This car is ready to disassemble, paint the color of your choice and reassemble. The car comes with a clean Illinois title. So if you are looking for a really nice early V-12 roadster in the color of your choice you can join the rest of the happy owners who are watching the V-12 prices dramatically rise to over 0K for properly restored examples.
